I have used this Bosch 4 1/2 inch Clay Spade with the slightly larger Bosch hammers and Combination Hammers and I will admit I was blown away at how easily it digs through the rock hard tough clay soil in my yard. The clay soil is so tight that if you dig a large hole and fill it with water, it will still be full of water days later.

Standard digging tools are useless in my yard. I'd was forced to use a pick axe or tire iron and a sledge hammer to chip away a little bit at at time. It was exhausting. Even small holes for plants or trenches for irrigation took a long time.

Now With this clay spade ... the soil seems to just crumble. My first experience with this spade was a "WOW" moment. Digging is amazingly fast and easy. This tool makes it really easy to over size the hole and mix in soil amendments so that one can plant something properly. Do you need to bury a drip irrigation line ... piece of cake with this spade. It actually became a fun and rewarding experience. I was in control of my yard again.

Seriously if you have a larger combination hammer (11241evs or larger) you can count on this spade to make your life a LOT easier. And if you happen to hit a buried concrete footing or rock, etc., you will only slightly dull the edge on the spade. It did not chip the edge of the spade or break it. After hours of use, I just put the spade on the grinder and touched up the cutting edge and it was good as new.
