Just sharpened all of my drill bits in the shop. About 60 of them. Only a few needed more than once in the jig. This was about 90% of all my drill bits. The few brad points, Forrester, and spade bits I either do it with other tools, send out, or throw away and get new ones.
All in all, a great buy! Does the same job as the more expensive models if you only have regular drill bits to sharpen.
Takes about 10 minutes of reading and fiddling around, then I was doing great every time. Make sure to have a magnifying glass or a loupe. The only real way to mess up is to have the bit in the jig off centered (usually just the wee sized bits).
Even a couple of new bits benefited from the sharpening as they are polished to make them look better.
All of the bits drilled a lot smoother and faster after sharpening. Really does improve the bit to have is sharp!
What do I see under the magnifier? Dull bits have their cutting edge bent over, the corner edge is not sharp, and the peak is not well defined. Afterwards, a shiny new surface, crisp peak, a perfect edge and truly sharp corners.
The diamond wheel felt perfectly fine after all of my bits so should last for years. I cleaned it with an pencil eraser (like my sanding belts!) then cleaned the dust chamber. The wheel can also be flipped to expose the other end for double the life.
